Okay, Really....

"nuff about rooms.  We left Montepulciano today, our transfer driver had recommended a few lovely stops along the way to Assisi, but we opted for just one, to allow a little more time.  He referred to Pienza as the "jewel of the hill towns,"  and coming from a hill town boy, I thought he probably knew what he was talking about.

Pienza truly was a spectacular little town, perfectly styled tiny Renaissance town, with about 300 degree views from the top of the hill.  We spent an hour or so just walking square and the surrounding wall.  The pictures tell the story.

We arrived in Assisi and were instantly moved by the sheer beauty of this Umbrian town.  We were visiting Assisi as pilgrims, and were really surprised that the town has so much to offer.  All of the beautiful medieval stonework has a beige-pink hue, carved from the stones of the hillside, and where ever the natural projections of stone just out, the pink is distinct.

Sloped stone streets and alleys go every which way with a thrilling new view from every corner.  Nuns, robed monks, priests and pilgrims crowd the streets, the gelaterias, the pastry shops, and sidewalk cafes.

We took to the top of the hill where Rocca Maggiore, the castle ruins of the fortified town crown the spectacle of Assisi.  We watched the sun set from this incredible perspective.
